01 Who we are

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Okinawa Sakamoto Dojo ("BJJO", "we") operates this website and runs jiu-jitsu classes at 1-4-3 Misato, Okinawa City, Okinawa, and at Kadena Air Base, Camp Foster and Camp Courtney. BJJO is the business operator responsible for the personal information described here under Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information.

02 What we collect

We collect only what we need to answer you and to run classes safely.

• Free class and contact forms: your name, email address, phone number, the location and program you are interested in, and anything you write in the message box.
• Enrolment at the dojo: name, date of birth, address, contact details, emergency contact, relevant medical information you choose to share, and for children, a parent or guardian's details and consent.
• Payments: handled at the dojo. We do not collect card numbers through this website.
• Website visits: our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested). This website does not set tracking cookies and does not currently use analytics.

03 How we use it

• To reply to your enquiry and confirm your free class.
• To run classes, keep attendance, and contact you or your emergency contact if something happens on the mats.
• To tell you about schedule changes, holidays, belt ceremonies, events and competitions.
• To process membership fees and keep the records the law requires.

We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling, and we do not sell it to anyone.

04 Services we rely on

A few third-party services process data on our behalf. Some are based outside Japan, mainly in the United States.

• Formspree (USA) receives what you type into our forms and emails it to us.
• Google Maps shows our location and the route from Naha Airport. Loading the map sends your IP address to Google.
• Google Fonts serves the typefaces on this site, which also sends your IP address to Google.
• Our hosting provider stores the website files and server logs.
• Instagram and Facebook are linked from the site. Clicking those links takes you to their platforms, governed by their own policies.

We only share personal information with these providers to the extent needed to deliver the service, or when the law requires us to disclose it.

05 How long we keep it

Form enquiries are kept until we have answered you and for a reasonable period afterwards, then deleted. Member records are kept for the duration of your membership and for the period Japanese tax and accounting rules require, then deleted or anonymised.

06 Your rights

You can ask us at any time to see the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to stop using it for a particular purpose. Email us or ask at the front desk. We will confirm your identity and respond without undue delay.

07 Children

Our kids classes welcome children from a young age. We collect a child's information only from a parent or guardian, with their consent, and we use it only to run the class safely and to keep the parent informed. Parents can review or delete their child's information at any time.

08 Photos and video

We take photos and video at classes, belt ceremonies, competitions and team events, and we share some of them on this website and on our social media. If you or your child prefer not to appear, tell a coach or email us and we will respect that. You can withdraw consent at any time and we will remove the image from channels we control.

09 Security

This website is served over HTTPS. Member records at the dojo are kept in locked storage or password-protected systems and are accessible only to coaches and staff who need them.

10 Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be announced at the dojo.
